Cheer Powder Laundry Detergent now HE Compatible!

Cheer Powder Laundry Detergent for HE Machines

Cheer has always been known as a highly effective powder detergent for colors – it lacks the OBAs that are present in most detergents sold in the US which can make saturated colors fade. And now it’s finally HE compatible!!

Cheer powder is one of the few laundry detergents widely available in the US that does not contain optical brighteners (OBAs) and is therefore truly safe for colors. Read on to find out why this is important and why you should avoid OBAs for your colored loads.

For the longest time Cheer was only available in a non-HE friendly version. Some people still used it in their HE front loaders with good results, but I personally did not want to take that risk. Well now Cheer powder is finally HE compatible! Head on over to Olga’s Laundry Blog to read the full post about HE friendly Cheer powder.

Persil ProClean Put to the Test – First Impressions and Review

Persil ProClean Review

Persil ProClean is now available at Walmart

Updated February 2, 2016: Check out my detailed review of Persil ProClean 2in1 liquid on Olga’s Laundry Blog. There’s also a giveaway running through February 16, 2016!

As you probably already know, I am a huge fan of German Persil and got very excited last week when the launch of Persil ProClean was announced in the US. Unfortunately, none of my local Walmarts were carrying the Persil ProClean line yet, so I reached out the the folks at ProClean and they were kind enough to send me some samples. I received them yesterday and of course had to put the US version of Persil to the test straight away! Here are my first impressions, and I will be doing a full comprehensive review after I’ve used the detergents for a while.

Edit June 5, 2015: Consumer Reports has named Persil ProClean 2-in-1 liquid their #1 top rated detergent! Read more here.

Persil ProClean laundry detergent now available at Walmart!

Persil ProClean at Walmart

After years of having had to purchase
German made Persil
through Miele dealerships and online at a huge premium, an American version called Persil ProClean has finally come to Walmart!

Okay, I am just beyond excited – if you’ve read my Tide vs Persil post you already know that I am a huge fan of German-made Henkel Persil detergents. The major downside has always been the price and not being able to purchase them locally. Well, just a couple of days ago Henkel USA announced that they will be launching Persil ProClean – a formula identical to the German versions but available at Walmart for less than $10!!! I spent the whole weekend driving around, but none of my four local Walmarts had them in stock. Nonetheless, I will not give up and will post a thorough review as soon as I can get my hands on it!

Looks like there will be liquids, packs and powders available, however I’m not sure exactly when all of these will start hitting the Walmart shelves. They are currently not yet showing up on the walmart.com website, but there was an add in this week’s circulator, so it should be there pretty soon. In the meantime, you can check out the Persil ProClean website,  facebook page and their Youtube channel!

Update: I had a chance to try out the ProClean line and you can read about my experience in this post (lots of pictures!).

Tide and Persil – In Search of the Perfect Laundry Detergent pt.1

persil vs tide

Is there such a thing as a perfect laundry detergent? That was the first question I asked myself when, after almost 4 years of using a wash and fold service, we finally purchased a washer and dryer. I must have spent at least two months reading various reviews, trying to figure out where to start, and finally singled out the top two recommended brands: Tide (huge in North America) and Persil (one of the biggest names in Europe). Read on to find out how they stack up!

And yes, I definitely understand both ladies in the picture above – laundry is hands down my favorite chore! While you might not see me hugging a box of detergent too often, I most certainly get excited about trying out new products, choosing new favorite scents and trying to find the absolute best laundry detergent out there.

All of the reviewed detergents are HE or HE compatible and contain enzymes unless otherwise noted (detergents with enzymes are not recommended for wool, silk and other delicate fabrics).

Update March 12, 2015: This review is about German-made Henkel Persil. If you are looking to read about the US version of Persil, Persil ProClean sold at Walmart, I posted about it here in detail and with before/after pictures.
